April 9 2025 PAB MinutesCity of Nederland Parks Advisory Board Minutes 12:03 pm April 9, 2025 1. MEETING The meeting was held on April 9, 2025, in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Paul Hussey. MEMBERS PRESENT: Paul Hussey, Jason Butler, Alex Rupp MEMBERS ABSENT: Brandin Shaw CITY STAFF PRESENT: Toby Latiolais, Parks and Recreation Director; Liz Gonzales, Parks and Recreation Clerk 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Jason Butler made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements. Toby Latiolais stated that the construction of a gazebo next to the pond at Doornbos Park had been contracted and begun with Kraftsman. Mr. Latiolais also shared that council had voted on and approved a contract with Landmark Aquatic for the pool pump room rebuild project that is set to begin in order to be completed prior to pool season. The city council also approved a contract with Kraftsman to install a new Cropo park play structure that is set to begin soon. New trash cans for the parks and new custom windscreens for the pickleball and tennis courts have also been ordered and are awaiting delivery. The Nederland Parks and Recreation department have been awarded a grant to upgrade to LED lighting in the recreation center. Mr. Latiolais shared that the city had been in discussion with an engineering firm about potential ADA upgrades to the bathroom facilities in the recreation center. Mr. Latiolais shared information with the board about the National Fitness Campaign and a grant program to help bring an outdoor fitness studio to the community. Paul Hussey made a motion to support the pursuing of the grant, and Jason Butler seconded the motion. All voted aye. Mr. Latiolais asked about recommendations for the upcoming budget cycle. Shades and seating at neighborhood parks, repurposing of the racquetball courts, and addressing the states of the pool house and Doornbos driveway were all discussed. b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming. Toby Latiolais stated that Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs was hosted on February 8, 2025. Monthly Pickleball 101 sessions have been held. Mr. Latiolais discussed past and upcoming Meet Me at the Park sessions. Pool Season begins May 21. Family nights are on each Thursday, and the department is looking for sponsorships. July 4th event will host PopGun! as the musical guest. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous: A motion was made by Alex Rupp to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Jason Butler.
