1. MEETING
The meeting was held on October 8, 2025, in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Paul Hussey.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Paul Hussey, Jason Butler, Heather Landry, Keith Bass
MEMBERS ABSENT: James VanDevender
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Toby Latiolais, Parks and Recreation Director, Mikaela Clark, Parks
and Recreation Assistant, Jeff Darby, Mayor
APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Jason Butler made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Heather Landry
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
2. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Toby Latiolais stated that repairs were made at the inclusive playground at Doornbos
including replacing music mallets and a ground repair. The Parks department went to the
middle schools during schedule pickup to help with getting students enrolled into our
Recdesk program to use the facility without their parent’s present. The city council
approved the Parks department to get shade and seating for Croppo LeBlanc Park. Mr.
Latiolais stated that the parks department applied for the Heritage Festival grant to be used
to purchase floor covering for the gym. There was also money allocated for driveway
improvements at Doornbos Park.
b. Discussion regarding past and upcoming park programming.
Mr. Latiolais stated that the pool season ended on August 17, 2025. The pool had a lot of
weather delays and closures due to lightning in the area. Mr. Latiolais stated that he would
like to get more guidance from council with the lightning mileage rule. The ASK fishing derby
at Doornbos park took place on October 4, 2025, and was successful. National Night Out
was held on October 7, 2025, on Boston Avenue and had a good turnout. Mr. Latiolais
stated that the Parks department sent home flyers with all the Nederland ISD elementary
schools for the event. Mr. Latiolais shared the dates of Monsters in the Park (October 18 th),
and Christmas on the Avenue (December 6th).
3. COMMUNICATION
a. Miscellaneous:
A motion was made by Jason Butler to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Heather
Landry. All voted aye and the meeting was adjourned at 12:35 pm.
