1. MEETING
The meeting was held on January 14, 2026, in the City of Nederland Recreation Center
at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Paul Hussey.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Paul Hussey, Heather Guidry, Keith Bass
MEMBERS ABSENT: James VanDevender, Jason Butler
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Toby Latiolais, Parks and Recreation Director, Mikaela Clark, Parks
and Recreation Assistant, Jeff Darby, Mayor
APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Heather Guidry made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Keith Bass
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
2. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Toby Latiolais stated that a shade structure will be installed at Croppo Park over the next
few weeks. Mr. Latiolais is working with the public works director, Taylor Shelton to do
repairs on the parking areas at Doornbos and to address drainage issues within the park.
HOFNOD will be hosted on February 7, 2026 at Doornbos Park. Meet Me at The Park is held
monthly in collaboration with the library. The parks department is planning for the July 4 th
event and will be looking into using SiCoustics for sound during the event. Mr. Latiolais
stated that the parks department will be hosting Pickleball 101 on January 26, 2026 and
plan to hold the class once a month for the year.
b. Discussion regarding past and upcoming park programming.
Mr. Latiolais stated that the Parks department had a successful Christmas on the Avenue
event. For the event, we used SiCoustics for sound this year and it was well received. The
parks department leased Christmas decorations for Tex Ritter Park for the second year. LED
lighting upgrades are being completed throughout the rec center. The Nederland Heritage
Festival awarded the Parks Department a grant for vinyl floor covering for the gymnasium.
The handicap parking at Doornbos Park was repainted.
3. COMMUNICATION
a. Miscellaneous:
A motion was made by Keith Bass to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Heather Guidry. All
voted aye and the meeting was adjourned at 12:44 pm.
