CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director, Stacy Jacobson, Recreation/Aquatics Assistant 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Jason Butler seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion/possible action to update the Parks Advisory Board By-laws: The Parks Advisory Board reviewed the changes to their by-laws. Angela Fanette updated the board that she had conferred with Gay Ferguson, City Clerk, regarding “skype” or voice calling for attendance to meetings to make a quorum but Mrs. Ferguson said that this would not be possible. They could, however, make such a call when a quorum was present. Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the changes; Bryan Gentile seconded. All voted aye. Motion carried. b. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements: Work on the electrical loop at Doornbos Park is expected begin soon and hopefully finish before pool season begins. Four of the twenty nine poles will have electrical outlets for parks use. Several updates will be taking place at the pool including the removal and possible replacement of the slide, a filter media change, and repairing the zero grade entry which is covered by warranty. We are currently working to quote new chair lifts as well to replace if possible. The Nederland Heritage Festival graciously granted the department with $10,000 for 21 new lounge chairs and 6 new tables for the pool. All items have been received in and will be available this summer for use. No action was needed. c. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming: After cancelling the Veterans Day event at Doornbos Park due to weather, the fireworks show was moved to a community pep-rally on Thursday, November 15th. The next program coming up in the department is HOFNOD on Saturday, February 23rd hosted by the Nederland Rotary Club, who supplies the prizes. Texas Parks and Wildlife donates the rainbow trout every year for this event. The next Saturday after HOFNOD, the parks department will host Trash Bash on March 2nd. This year will be different in that groups will pick a project when they sign up, instead of being assigned one the day of the event. Angela Fanette also discussed possibly giving away reusable water bottles to the volunteers instead of t-shirts. The pool season will tentatively begin the weekend of May 18th – 19th. Staff will be reviewing pool party pricing, resident pool entry fee, pool punch cards, and non-resident Recreation Center fees prior to the summer starting and would like input from the board as well regarding any changes. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous. 5. ADJOURN There being no other business, Jason Butler made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye, and the motion carried. The meeting concluded at 12:37 PM. Stacy Jacobson, Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
