DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion/possible action regarding usage for NISD use of parks and pool facilities for end of year school parties. Since the last advisory board meeting, additional schools have requested to use the Nederland Pool for end of year parties. The parks department has received more requests this year than in years past, and will have to split up the four days of available time. These requests are pending availability of lifeguard staff, and at Mr. Laird’s suggestion, Angela Fanette has attempted to contact Dr. Beagle to approve the release of lifeguards that are NISD students to insure the department will have adequate staffing for the school parties. No action was required. b. Discussion/possible action regarding Nederland Youth Athletic League Utility Reimbursement Policy. Angela Fanette spoke with Cheryl Dowden in the finance department regarding the reimbursement policy. Each of the leagues turn in a packet containing a signed cover letter, a list of coaches that have been background checked, and a list of bills with copies of the bills attached. Cheryl requested to have a checklist for the leagues to turn in to help simplify the process. Moving forward, Angela Fanette would like for Nederland Little Dribblers to submit the same information, with the exception of the utilities, as the other leagues in Nederland for the in-kind donation of the Recreation Center gym usage the City provides. A checklist will be presented at next meeting. No action was required. c. Discussion regarding upcoming parks programming. A Memorial Day celebration will be held at Veteran’s Park on Friday, May 25th at 10:00 am. Angela Fanette is hopeful the Veteran’s kiosk will be installed by this date. The department is working on sponsorship for the 4 th of July programming. Still Cruisin’ will be the entertainment with Phoenix Design Group providing fireworks. David Varnado will perform the National Anthem on his fiddle. The department will not be hosting an Art in the Park this year due to conflicting events in the community. The Family Night schedule has been completed for this year’s pool season. Dominos, MCT Credit Union, Golden Triangle Emergency Center, and Nash Rankin All State have sponsored a few of those nights. No action was needed. d. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements. The Veteran’s Park kiosk will hopefully be completed by the end of May. The pool roof project started today, and weather permitting, should be a quick project. The electrical loop in Doornbos Park will be out for bids soon. Depending on the received bids, it will be determined whether the project will be multiyear or not. The new installation of the comet spinner at Cropo LeBlanc Park has been completed. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous. On Saturday, March 17th the pool was broken into, and the intruders were caught by Nederland PD. Stephanie Gallagher and Jason Butler asked how the turnout was for the fishing derby and Trash Bash. Angela Fanette stated one noted improvement for the future would be to purchase signs to help deter people from fishing in the pond when Texas Parks and Wildlife donates the rainbow trout for HOFNOD. Angela Fanette also stated the department had a successful Trash Bash on March 3rd with over 150 volunteers helping clean and beautify Nederland Parks and that the help was appreciated as the department is behind schedule at this time due community volunteer workers not being release at this time. The program is expected to return soon. 5. ADJOURN There being no other business, Stephanie Gallagher made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Brian Gentile seconded the motion. All voted aye, and the motion carried. The meeting concluded at 1:05 PM. Stacy Jacobson, Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
