DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion regarding the Nederland Pool Summer Swim Program for 2018: The 2018 pool season has gone well and was adequately staffed with the change to the schedule. No issues with equipment were reported, in part to rest time in the pool schedule and covering the pump room. Revenue is slightly lower, and there were few issues with patrons regarding pool rules and policies. The department is looking into a possible wage increase for lifeguards next year. A dress code for the pool is currently in the works as requested by patrons. This new dress code will be posted at the front desk at the pool and cover all approved and not approved swim wear. No action was needed. b. Discussion/possible action to update the Parks Advisory Board Bi-Laws: The board reviewed the current bi-laws adopted on January 26, 2009. Angela Fanette will email copies for each member to review and recommend changes after the meeting. The revised bi-laws will then be reviewed at the next Parks Advisory Board meeting. No action was needed. c. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements: The department is waiting on the contract to get started on the lighting project for Doornbos Park. The next step will be to begin ordering parts for the light poles. All other projects have been completed for this fiscal year. No action was needed. d. Discussion regarding July 4th parks programming/reschedule. The 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza had to be cancelled due to the unsafe conditions due to weather. The fireworks show was rescheduled for Veterans Day on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 7:15 p.m. The band, Still Crusin’, has also recommitted to perform that night. Texas Road House, however, will not be able to donate, as they feed veterans for free in house on that day. Angela Fanette is hoping to find a local non-profit that will be willing to donate chili or gumbo for the veterans. A small ceremony will also take place the morning of Monday, November 12, 2018 at Veterans Park. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION e. Miscellaneous. The next event will be National Night Out on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 on Boston Avenue. Monsters in the Park will be Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Doornbos Park. The train from the 4th of July was able to move to Monsters in the Park. Mid-county Farm and Feed will host a pet costume contest that night. Christmas on the Avenue will be Saturday, December 1, 2018 starting at 2:00 p.m. Vendors can start signing up for this event after October 1, 2018. The maintenance workers added one federal inmate to their crew about two weeks ago. The basketball gym floor will be resurfaced at the end of August.
