1. MEETING
The meeting was held May 11, 2016 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301
Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Sylvia Root.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sylvia Root, Brian Gentile, Alex Rupp,
MEMBERS ABSENT: Stephanie Gallagher, Marty Byrd
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director, Kacie Brown,
Recreation Assistant
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Brian Gentile
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION:
a. Discussion/possible action regarding smoking ban on park property.
Angela Fanette presented the board with a draft of an ordinance prohibiting
smoking and the use of electronic vaping devices at City Parks and park facilities.
Brian Gentile made a motion to recommend approval for the smoking ban on
park property. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
b. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Carl Durden to host
Fellowship Baptist club at Doornbos Park.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Carl Durden to host Fellowship Baptist
club at Doornbos Park on June 19th and 26th. Participation in this club is open to
the public free of charge. A certificate of liability of insurance naming the City of
Nederland as an additional insured will be provided if available. Alex Rupp made a
motion to recommend approval for the league. Brian Gentile seconded the
motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
c. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Lance Howell to host
Hillcrest Baptist Summer Fun Camp at various park locations.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Lance Howell to host Hillcrest Baptist’s
Summer Fun Camp at various park locations in June, July and August. Power and
water would be provided for their usage. A certificate of liability of insurance
naming the City of Nederland as an additional insured will be provided if
available. Brian Gentile made a motion to recommend approval to host Hillcrest
Baptist Summer Fun Camp at various park locations. Alex Rupp seconded the
motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
d. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Torey Gomez for pool
usage for Hillcrest Elementary Intramurals party.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Torey Gomez to utilize the Nederland
Swimming Pool on May 25th from 3:45-5pm. This swim invitation would be
extended to Hillcrest Elementary students who excelled at intramural sports
throughout the 2015/16 school year. Fees will be waived. A certificate of liability
of insurance naming the City of Nederland as an additional insured will be
provided if available. Alex Rupp made a motion to recommend approval of Torey
Gomez’s request for pool usage for Hillcrest Elementary Intramurals party. Brian
Gentile seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
e. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Monte Barrow for pool
usage for NISD Summer Recreation Program.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Monte Barrow to utilize the Nederland
Swimming Pool on June 13th or 20th, depending on what date better suits the
department. This swim invitation would be extended to NISD students who
participate in the 2016 Summer Recreation Program. Fees will be waived. A
certificate of liability of insurance naming the City of Nederland as an additional
insured will be provided if available. Brian Gentile made a motion to recommend
approval of Monte Barrow’s request for pool usage for NISD Summer Recreation
Program. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
f. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Keith Barrow to host a
Nederland 6 Aside Summer Soccer Program at Doornbos Park.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Keith Barrow to host a Nederland 6
Aside Summer Soccer Program and Soccer Camp at Doornbos Park. Nederland 6
Aside Summer Soccer camp fees will be $60 or $95 depending on age; cost to
participate includes camp, referee and shirt fees. Soccer league fees will be
$40/child for one week; twenty percent of fees collected from both programs will
be given to the Parks and Recreation Department. Alex Rupp made a motion to
recommend approval of Keith Barrow’s request to host a Nederland 6 Aside
Summer Soccer Program and Soccer Camp at Doornbos Park. Brian Gentile
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
g. Discussion regarding the July 4th Fireworks show.
Angela Fanette discussed plans for this year’s Monday evening event. Musical
entertainment will be provided by Still Crusin’ and a firework display will be
presented by The Phoenix Design Group. Sponsorship opportunities are still
available. The Nederland Swimming Pool will be open to the public from 5pm -
10pm. Food Vendors will be invited to participate by invitation only. No action
was needed.
4. COMMUNICATION
a. Update on park improvements and repairs.
Angela Fanette gave a brief update on the status of the pool project. UV
installation and resurface of the pool is complete but corrections to the zero
grade area will be done at the close of the 2016 pool season.
b. Miscellaneous.

5. ADJOURN
There being no other business, Sylvia Root made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Brian
Gentile seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. The meeting concluded at
12:53pm.
