Minutes

1. MEETING
The meeting was held February 8, 2017 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Sylvia Root.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sylvia Root, Alex Rupp, Marty Byrd, Brian Gentile
MEMBERS ABSENT: Stephanie Gallagher
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director, Stacy Jacobson,
Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Marty Byrd made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Brian Gentile
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION:
a. Discussion regarding moving the Parks Advisory Board regularly scheduled
meetings to the second Wednesday of each month.
The Advisory Board discussed officially changing the meeting to the second
Wednesday of each month. No action was required.
b. Discussion regarding the appointment of a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, and
a secretary for the Parks Advisory Board.
The board discussed appointing the following positions: a chairperson, who would
preside over the board meetings and perform the other duties ordinarily
performed by the officer; a vice-chairperson, who, in the absence of the
chairperson, would perform all the duties of the chairperson; a chairperson pro
tempore, who in the absence of both the chairperson and the vice-chairperson,
would perform the duties of the chairperson of the board; and a secretary, who
would perform the usual duties pertaining to the office and keep a record of all
Board meetings. No action was required.
c. Discussion on Parks programs.
Angela Fanette discussed the upcoming parks programs. Rec-N-Roll is February
11th from 6:30 – 10:00 PM. It is a new “parents night out” program for 1st – 4th
graders. Activities will include a scavenger hunt, gym time, arts and crafts, dinner,
game room time, and a movie. The Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs fishing derby
hosted by the Rotary Club will be February 25th from 8:00 – 11:30 AM. Trash Bash
is March 4th, and she is still identifying areas to clean. Art in the Park is April 22 nd
and will have vendors and a petting zoo. Sponsorship for the 4th of July is going
well with $5,000 already collected.
4. COMMUNICATION
a. Miscellaneous.
The project to replace the metal roof, siding and gutters will start February 22nd.
The department has just purchased a new tractor, because the old John Deere
tractor broke. Angela is working with the playground equipment company to
replace the broke slide in Doornbos Park.
5. ADJOURN
There being no other business, Brian Gentile made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Marty Byrd seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. The meeting
concluded at 12:27 pm.
