11-November 12 2013 MinutesCity of Nederland Parks Advisory Board Minutes 12:03 p.m. November 12, 2013 1. MEETING The meeting was held November 12, 2013 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Brent Weaver. MEMBERS PRESENT: Brent Weaver, Sylvia Root, Marty Byrd (by phone), Joella Harvey, Stephanie Gallagher MEMBERS ABSENT: none CITY STAFF PRESENT: Kacie Brown, Recreation Assistant, Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Sylvia Root made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Stephanie Gallagher seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION: a. Discussion of request from Doug Underwood for a movie in the park. Angela Fanette stated that this item was a continuation of discussion as Mr. Underwood has not formally made a request, but is researching hosting a movie in the park. Mr. Underwood has suggested showing ‘Roman Holiday’ in conjunction with the BoomTown Film Festival to promote arts in mid-county. No action was needed. b. Discussion of park requests forms and agreements. Angela Fanette presented new forms for request for usage and for instructor and class usage outlining the use of the facility that are currently being reviewed by the City Attorney. These forms will be used to help clarify requests and user responsibility for the Parks Department. Additionally, the current reservation forms were presented for information regarding the usage of the facility that is part of the day to day operations of the Nederland Parks Department. No action was needed. c. Discussion regarding Nederland DeMolay youth group recognition. Angela Fanette stated that the Nederland DeMolay ground would be recognized at the December 9th Council Meeting for their service to the Nederland Parks Department with a small plaque. The DeMolay youth group has planted trees and spread mulch in preparation for Christmas on the Avenue at Tex Ritter Park, and has additionally donated time to hang Christmas lights in the park. In an attempt to start to formally recognize those groups that donate time and talent to the department, Angela Fanette stated that she would like to bring those items to Council for recognition and to help encourage volunteerism in the community. No action was needed. d. Discussion of 6th Annual Christmas on the Avenue event. Angela Fanette presented fliers for the 6th Annual Christmas on the Avenue event scheduled for December 7th, 2013 from 12pm to 8pm. The event will boast vendors, pony rides, petting zoo, trains, Painting with a Twist, and snow in the park after the tree lighting at 6pm. Angela Fanette stated that volunteers would be needed for the event. No action was needed. 4. ADJOURN There being no other business, Marty Byrd made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
