1. MEETING
The meeting was held October 14, 2015 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Sylvia Root.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sylvia Root, Stephanie Gallagher, Brian Gentile, Alex Rupp, Marty
Byrd
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Kacie Brown, Recreation Assistant, Angela Fanette, Parks and
Recreation Director
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Stephanie Gallagher made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Alex
Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION:
a. Discussion regarding Nederland Veterans Park.
Angela Fanette stated that the construction of Nederland’s Veterans Park is on-
going. Phase 1 will be complete by Wednesday, November 11, 2015, on Veterans
Day. There will be a Park Dedication, Ribbon Cutting, and Veterans Day
Celebration on this day. Brian Gentile asked if the City was receiving donations
from the public to help fund this project. Angela Fanette stated that some funding
for the granite soldier silhouette to be installed at a later phase has been donated
by an anonymous contributor. No action was needed.
b. Discussion regarding pool improvements.
Angela Fanette stated that the City of Nederland received no bids for the 2016
Pool Project. She discussed the possibility of purchasing parts of the splash pad
features via Buy Board and is currently gathering more information from the
engineer as to if this is possible and within the scope of work called for on the
plans. Alex Rupp added that there may be a number of state contracts available
to do this type of work. Angela Fanette stated that she would report back to the
board when more information had been obtained. No action was needed.
c. Discussion regarding Christmas on the Avenue.
Angela Fanette stated that Christmas on the Ave would take place on Saturday,
December 5th from 1pm-6pm on Boston Ave. This year’s event will include:
Pappy’s Ponies & Petting Zoo, photos with Lori Lens, a snowflake search, and Tree
Lighting Ceremony at 6pm with snow in Tex Ritter Park. Vendor applications are
currently being accepted. Christmas ornaments will again be offered for sale this
year as well for $5 each. No action was needed.
d. Discussion/ possible action regarding a request ASK for dates of usage for 2016.
A request from ASK for 2016 usage was presented for use of the facility, softball
and soccer field for various sports throughout the year. No fees are charged to
those who participate in ASK programming. Additional insurance would be
provided by ASK. Mary Byrd made a motion to recommend approval of this
request. Stephanie Gallagher seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motioned
carried.
e. Discussion/ possible action for a request for usage from Little Dribblers.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Nederland Little Dribblers to use the
gym for practices for their 2015-2016 season. Additional insured would be
provided for the event. No fees would be charged. Angela Fanette stated that
usage would be for practices only and would for the same amount of time used
last year. Times would be determined by needs and facility usage. Stephanie
Gallagher made a motion to recommend approval of this request. Brian Gentile
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motioned carried.
Brian Gentile asked about the progress of the sundeck installation at the Park.
Angela Fanette stated that construction was now on-going as there were material
issues that had been reviewed and approved by the engineer. The project is now
moving forward.
4. ADJOURN
There being no other business, Sylvia Root made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Brian
Gentile seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. The meeting concluded at
12:54 pm.
