1-January 13 2015 MinutesCity of Nederland Parks Advisory Board Minutes 12:10 p.m. January 13, 2015 1. MEETING The meeting was held January 13, 2015 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Sylvia Root. MEMBERS PRESENT: Sylvia Root, Alex Rupp, Joella Harvey, Stephanie Gallagher MEMBERS ABSENT: Marty Byrd CITY STAFF PRESENT: Kacie Brown, Recreation Assistant, Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director, Chris Duque, City Manager 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Stephanie Gallagher made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Joella Harvey seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION: a. Discussion regarding Veteran’s Park project. Chris Duque presented an update on the progress of the Veterans park project. Victoria Klehn, Library Director, has been working on a website for the database portion of the project. Committee members have reviewed initial draft drawings of the park. At this time, another meeting is scheduled for January. No action was needed. b. Discussion regarding proposed fireworks show for July 4, 2015. Chris Duque stated that the City has signed a contract for services for the event with Phoenix Design Group. The City has sent out letters to all hospitals, schools, and churches within proximity per the Fire Marshall’s request. Donation and fundraising for the event is currently being planned . No action was needed. c. Discussion regarding the proposed swimming pool project. Angela Fanette stated that the EDC has granted funds for the project for improvements to the slide and an additional feature to the deep end of the pool area. Additionally the pool will need to be resurfaced, which is part of the overall maintenance of the facility. The pool engineer has given information for sprays for the splash pad area so that staff can review. The City also plans to replace fencing as part of the project. No action was needed. d. Discussion regarding various repair/improvement projects. Angela Fanette stated that concrete repairs will being as soon as the sundeck repair is underway. Currently the sundeck is being engineered so that it will meet windstorm and ADA requirements. Concrete repairs have begun at Doornbos Park and will continue as weather and staffing permits. Sidewalks will be repaired in a number of areas in the park. The museums will be repaired in order to fix windows, protect siding, and repair boards and supports at the Windmill and French House at Tex Ritter Park. No action was needed. e. Discussion of upcoming events. Dates for 2015 programs: February 20th or 21st- Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD), March 14th- Trash Bash, April 22nd- Earth Day, plant trees in the afternoon followed by a showing of The Lorax at dark (Tentative), April 25th- Art in the Park 10AM-3PM, Tentative day in May- Water Safety Day, May 25th- Memorial Day Celebration, July 4th- Fireworks Extravaganza, Tentative day in August- Back to School Splash, October 10th- Movie in the Park, November 11th- Veterans Day Celebration, December 5th- Christmas on the Avenue. A number of non-profit clubs and organizations are also using the meeting room and we have a number of private bookings already secured for 2015. Additionally, ASK season will start on March 7, 2015 with opening day ceremonies. No action was needed. 4. ADJOURN There being no other business, Stephanie Gallagher made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Joella Harvey seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
