3-March 10 2015 MinutesCity of Nederland Parks Advisory Board Minutes 12:02 p.m. March 10, 2015 1. MEETING The meeting was held March 10, 2015 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Sylvia Root. MEMBERS PRESENT: Sylvia Root, Joella Harvey, Marty Byrd MEMBERS ABSENT: Alex Rupp, Stephanie Gallagher CITY STAFF PRESENT: Kacie Brown, Recreation Assistant, Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director, Chris Duque, City Manager 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Joella Harvey made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Marty Byrd seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION: a. Discussion regarding the proposed swimming pool project. Angela Fanette stated that City Council has, as recommended, approved rejecting bids for the pool project at this time. Staff is working on buy board quotes for the rock climbing wall and slide, as funding for this was gifted by the Nederland EDC. No action was needed. b. Discussion regarding July 4, 2015. Angela Fanette stated that the City of Nederland is in contract with Phoenix Design Group. Sponsorships are being outlined at this time. We are working on a plan for individuals/families who would like to donate. Silvia Root suggested a small donation to post at City Hall or the Nederland Recreation Center, like a shamrock that MDA does for Muscular Dystrophy. Sponsorship requests will go out this month. Additionally, we have requested a micro grant from Entergy. No action was needed. c. Discussion regarding various repair/improvement projects. Angela Fanette stated that concrete repairs started at the back of the park and are wrapping around up towards the front. Repairs are anticipated to be complete by end of March. The Windmill repairs are complete and the contractor will be starting the French House as soon as the weather clears. The sundeck replacement bid was awarded by Council to Bruce’s Construction. Work on this project should begin soon. No action was needed. d. Discussion/ possible action regarding a request from Brian English for a high school basketball league for spring. This is the 9th year of request for use from Brian English for basketball for high school teams. Brian will manage the league and be responsible for paying all scorekeepers and referees for the league. All teams will sign up through the Nederland Recreation Center. All teams will pay $110 per team. $10 per team of this will be paid to the city for usage. Insurance is not available for this program. All participating teams will have to sign a release to play. Dates of play are Mondays in April from 4:30-9pm. The league will work with the Recreation Center schedule if conflicts in requested time exist. Joella Harvey made a motion to recommend approval of this request. The Marty Byrd seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motioned carried. 4. ADJOURN There being no other business, Joella Harvey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Marty Byrd seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
