1. MEETING
The meeting was held May 21, 2015 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301
Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Stephanie Gallagher.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Marty Byrd, Alex Rupp, Stephanie Gallagher
MEMBERS ABSENT: Sylvia Root
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Marty Byrd made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Alex Rupp
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION:
a. Discussion regarding July 4, 2015.
Angela Fanette gave a brief update on the planning for the event including that
the event was funded and that there would be a Veterans area and a Field of
Honor at the event. Currently, staff is finalizing a band for the event and
promotional materials would be ordered soon for sponsors. The event will
include a radio broadcast. No action was needed.
b. Discussion regarding various repair/improvement projects.
Angela Fanette stated that the Windmill repairs are complete and the French
House is nearly complete in the repairs. The sundeck concrete work is complete
and the beams will be installed in the next few weeks as long as the weather
cooperates. The repairs to the pool slide and installation of the rock climbing wall
are set to take place at the end of the month. No action was needed.
c. Discussion regarding Nederland Veterans Park.
Angela Fanette stated that Nederland Veterans Park bids were opened and staff is
currently reviewing bids. Additional updates on the status of the park will be
available at the next meeting. The park property is adjacent to the Nederland City
Hall. No action was needed.
d. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Kristin Lemoine for a Volleyball
camp at the Nederland Recreation Center gymnasium.
Angela Fanette presented a request from Kristin Lemoine for a Volleyball camp at the
Nederland Recreation Center gymnasium for July 13-16, 2015 from 9am to 1:30pm,
with times broken up for middle school and high school students. Each age group
would play for 90 minutes. Approximately 65 participants are expected for this
usage. Cost for the event would be $85 for each child, with a sibling option of $70 for
additional children in a family. Mrs. Lemoine is unable to provide insurance for this
program. Twenty percent of total fees collected will be paid by Mrs. Lemoine to the
City of Nederland for usage of the facility. All participants would need to have a
parent or guardian sign a waiver in order to participate in the program. No
concessions or any other sales will be allowed. Angela Fanette recommended
allowing usage for the program pending the previously listed information and all
other building rules would apply. Marty Byrd made a motion to recommend
approval of this usage. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion
carried.
4. ADJOURN
There being no other business, Marty Byrd made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alex
Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. The meeting concluded at
12:17 pm.
