8-August 9 2017 MinutesCity of Nederland Parks Advisory Board Minutes 12:00 p.m. August 9, 2017 1. MEETING The meeting was held August 9, 2017 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Sylvia Root. MEMBERS PRESENT: Brian Gentile, Alex Rupp, Stephanie Gallagher, Sylvia Root MEMBERS ABSENT: Marty Byrd CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Stephanie Gallagher made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes with the correction of the meeting being called to order by Sylvia Root and not Stephanie Gallagher for the previous meeting’s minutes. Brian Gentile seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion regarding possible parks ordinance changes. Angela Fanette discussed a number of possible changes to be reviewed by the department and the Parks Advisory Board in order to make appropriate changes to help staff and patrons. Deposits on parties and rentals, fees for reservation for the outdoor facilities, and building entry requirements are being reviewed and compared to other entities to determine if there is a better method of reservation and usage. All board members were encouraged to give thought to areas that they feel need review to be discussed at subsequent meetings and so information can be collected for discussion. No action was needed. b. Discussion regarding upcoming parks programming. Angela Fanette discussed that the Parks Department was currently preparing for National Night Out, Monsters in the Park, Veterans Day, and Christmas on the Avenue. National Night Out will be held on Boston Avenue on October 3rd, and previous attendees will be invited to participate again. Monsters in the Park will be held on October 27th, a bye week for high school football, and Veterans Day activities will be held on Friday, November 10th. SETVSG is invited to attend again this year. Christmas on the Avenue is set for December 2nd, and all events are being planned at this time. No action was needed. c. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements. Angela Fanette gave an update on current and proposed park projects. The pool roof overhang project we begin again as soon as the pool season is complete. Additionally, the proposed budget for 2017-18 will include a new pool roof. Currently, this budget is not approved but will be going before City Council in the next few weeks. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous. No items were discussed. 5. ADJOURN There being no other business, Brian Gentile made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
