8-August 14, 2019 MinutesCity of Nederland Parks Advisory Board Minutes 12:01 p.m. August 14, 2019 1. MEETING The meeting was held August 14, 2019 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Angela Fanette. MEMBERS PRESENT: Brandin Shaw, Paul Hussey, Brian Gentile, Jason Butler MEMBERS ABSENT: Alex Rupp CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Brian Gentile made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Jason Butler seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 2. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvement s. Angela Fanette stated that all 29 poles of the electrical project for Doornbos Park were now functional, and that lights would need to be set for direction and one additional pole would be installed at the front of the park. Brandin Shaw stated that he had heard positive feedback on the new lights. Angela Fanette stated that the existing green poles would be removed as part of the project. Angela Fanette also stated that staff was working on a quote through BuyBoard for installation of a new slide at the pool and hope to have that together to present at the next City Council meeting. Brian Gentile asked if the zip line option was still a consideration for the department. Angela Fanette stated that it was not part of the current project but may be looked into further for the future. Angela Fanette stated that the tennis court posts would be repairs in the next few weeks and after complete staff will work on cleaning and putting up screens at the courts. A new roof will be put on the pavilion at Doornbos Park this month. Brandin Shaw asked if the pavers for the ponds were a current project, and Angela Fanette stated that it would be something that needs to be addressed as there have been ongoing replacement of pavers and some research and planning would need to go into how to appropriately address the pond wall. No action was needed. b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming: Angela Fanette stated that the last Family night at the pool would be Thursday, and would be a Weird Science night. The next programming set for the department after this would be National Night Out on October 1st, and Monsters in the Park on October 11th. Both programs are in need of sponsors and interested food vendors. Monsters in the Park movie is set to be “Hocus Pocus” tentatively at this time. Christmas on the Avenue will be held on December 7 th and more information regarding this event will be discussed as it is available. No action was needed. c. Discussion/possible action regarding the appointment of a chairperson, a vice- chairperson, and a secretary for the Parks Advisory Board. Angela Fanette stated that the board, since there are new members, will need to appoint a chair, vice-chair and secretary for the board. Jason Butler made a motion to postpone to the next meeting to allow board members not in attendance to participate in the appointment. Brian Gentile seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous: Jason Butler requested an update regarding stocking the p ond with bass or perch. Angela Fanette stated that she had contacted Texas Parks & Wildlife and they did not suggest stocking with bass or perch but rather catfish due to the size of the pond. Angela Fanette said she would get more information on cost to stock for catfish. 4. ADJOURN There being no other business, Jason Butler made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
