1. MEETING
The meeting was held November 10, 2021 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Jason Butler.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Brandin Shaw, Betty Davis-Pruitt, Jason Butler, Paul Hussey
MEMBERS ABSENT: Alex Rupp
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director; Stacy Pinner,
Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Brandin Shaw made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Jason Butler
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
2. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Angela Fanette listed the current and proposed park repairs and improvements. The City
will open for bids for the pool deck resurfacing project. This 120 day project will include
the resurfacing, addition of concrete, and address drainage issues. A basketball half court
will be installed at Cropo LeBlanc Park this budget year. A small portion of the Tex Ritter
Park electrical and lighting project will begin in time to decorate for Christmas on the
Ave. Landscaping is planned for the spring in Tex Ritter Park. In addition to the tennis
court resurfacing and electrical project at Doornbos Park, the department is reviewing
playground equipment for Doornbos Park. Paul Hussey and Angela Fanette discussed
shade options for the new playground. Upgrades to the playground are planned for
South 5th St. Park. Maintenance staff is continuously working on the algae bloom in the
Doornbos Pond. No action was needed.
b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming.
November 11, 2021 the department will be hosting the Veteran’s Day Ceremony at City
Hall at 10:00 a.m. weather permitting. Christmas on the Avenue will be held December
4, 2021 on Boston Ave. from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with the Tree lighting Ceremony at
6:00 p.m. The event currently has over 70 vendors, a toboggan tunnel, a snow-mazing life
size inflatable maze, and other activities. Stage entertainment in front of Tex Ritter Park
will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. In spring of 2022, Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs
hosted by the Nederland Rotary Club will be February 26, 2021 and Trash Bash is
scheduled for March. The department is also looking into programing some smaller
events in the spring. No action was needed
3. COMMUNICATION
a. Miscellaneous: Angela Fanette stated a request from Teddy Romero to discuss
skate parks is pending, but that Mr. Romero was not able to attend this month’s
meeting. Jason Butler shared that Grant’s Guardians will be sponsoring Isla’s Faith
at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Jason asked how the goat yoga program went
that was held on November 7, 2021, and Angela Fanette stated there were no
issues.
4. ADJOURN
There being no other business, Jason Butler made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Brandin Shaw seconded the motion. All voted aye. The motion carried. The meeting
concluded at 12:49 p.m.
