1. MEETING
The meeting was held October 20, 2021 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Alex Rupp.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Brandin Shaw, Alex Rupp, Betty Davis-Pruitt
MEMBERS ABSENT: Jason Butler, Paul Hussey
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director; Stacy Pinner,
Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Brandin Shaw
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
2. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Receive comments from Teddy Romero regarding a skate park.
Mr. Romero requested to discuss the possible installation and funding of a skate park in
Nederland. However, he was unable to attend the meeting. Alex Rupp made a motion to
postpone this item. Brandin Shaw seconded the motion. All voted aye. The motion
carried.
b. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Angela Fanette listed the current and proposed park repairs and improvements. The
department is working with Brannon Corp Engineers on the pool deck resurfacing
project. The tennis court project is pending. The lights and electrical work need to be
completed, then the resurfacing and repairs to the slab can begin. The department is
looking into adding another play area to replace the sand volleyball court at Doornbos
Park. Additionally, the South 5th Street Park will receive upgrades. The department is
reviewing options for electrical upgrades and landscaping at Tex Ritter Park. The
retention wall at Doornbos is also a proposed upcoming project.
c. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming.
Angela Fanette gave an update on park programming. Heath Source Nederland is hosting
three classes of Goat Yoga at the Doornbos Park softball field on Sunday, November 7,
2021 with proceeds benefiting Girl’s Haven of Beaumont. Little Dribblers has a request
pending Council approval for usage of the gym for practices for the season. Monsters in
the Park will be Friday, October 29, 2021 at Doornbos Park. The Harry Potter themed
event will include a Forbidden Forrest, Quidditch Drills, a Chamber of Secrets Maze and
the Golden Snitch Scavenger Hunt, and end with a showing of Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer’s Stone. The City’s Veterans Day celebration will be Thursday, November 11,
2021 at Veterans Park next to City Hall. The celebration will include a performance by the
Helena Singers, Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group, and refreshments after the
ceremony. Christmas on the Avenue will be Saturday, December 4, 2021 on Boston
Avenue. The event will be from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with the Tree Lighting at 6:00 p.m.

4. ADJOURN
There being no other business, Alex Rupp made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Betty
Davis-Pruitt seconded the motion. All voted aye. The motion carried. The meeting
concluded at 12:51 p.m.
