WORK SCHEDULE This position typically works 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required. Call-out options are available. ESSENTIAL SERVICES POLICY Employees in this position are classified Essential Services Personnel, and are identified by the City to be part of the emergency response team before, during, or after a hurricane. Essential Services Personnel are required to work before, during, or immediately after a hurricane, and may be unable to evacuate with their family. Employees identified as Essential Services Personnel also meet the definition of Emergency Services Personnel as defined in Chapter 22 of the Texas Labor Code. Failure to comply with this policy may result in discipline up to and including termination. Parks Maintenance Worker City of Nederland, TX 1 of 1 Parks Maintenance Worker DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation DATE: April 2022 SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, performs basic maintenance tasks in City parks and facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Performs general labor tasks to maintain safe and attractive park system; maintains park facilities, buildings, and grounds, and follows all safety rules and regulations; duties may vary according to job assignment. • Operates mechanized equipment; cleans and maintains parks and facilities; cleans up trash and debris, prunes and trims plants; assists with maintenance and preventive maintenance duties as assigned, including swimming pools and aquatic facilities; repairs and adjusts equipment. • Assists with a wide variety of duties for special events; oversees volunteer work crews. • Supports the relationship between the City of Nederland and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge: • City policies and procedures. • Federal, state and City safety rules and regulations. • Methods, materials, and equipment used in parks maintenance. • Pool maintenance systems, landscaping equipment, and repair and maintenance techniques. Skill in: • Operation and maintenance of equipment, according to standard operating and safety procedures. • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one years of grounds maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: • Must possess a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License. • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certificate is preferred and may be required; additional special training and licensing may also be required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed at City park facilities and venues; required to perform moderate physical work.
