MEETING The meeting was held May 18, 2022 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Alex Rupp. MEMBERS PRESENT: Brandin Shaw, Betty Davis-Pruitt, Alex Rupp MEMBERS ABSENT: Paul Hussey CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director; Mikaela Clark, Recreation/Aquatics Assistant 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Betty Davis-Pruitt seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements. Angela Fanette stated that the new play features for 5th Street park are ordered and waiting on delivery for install dates to be set. A concrete border around the current sand volleyball court will be removed to prepare the grounds for a playground in the future. Alex Rupp asked if it was possible to fill the area with dirt. Angela Fanette stated a removal would be required for future planning. Angela Fanette stated that specifications for a half court basketball court were currently being reviewed. The swimming pool deck project will be rebid this summer; fencing around the pool slide will follow. Angela Fanette stated the engineer is working on lighting plans for Tex Ritter park. Landscaping and painting the windmill will follow project completion. Staff is currently reviewing a possible project on the pond at Doornbos park for next budget year. Brandin Shaw asked if the pond project would require closing the area or park. Angela Fanette stated that hopefully it could be done in the fall and winter to avoid high usage times. Angela Fanette stated she is currently researching disc golf and skate park costs. The department has also completed some unplanned repairs such as flag pole repairs, A/C issues, a pump seal repair, playground repairs, damage to the Welcome sign and park sinks, power surge at the pool, fence damage, gym light replacement, mower repairs, pool and recreation center restroom repairs, and a shop door repair. Currently the department is waiting on final repairs for brackets for the pump room and the pool chemtrol unit. No action was needed. b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming. Angela Fanette stated that Veteran banners will be going up next week in time for Memorial Day. Alex Rupp asked about restriping the parking lot in front of the recreation center. Angela Fanette stated that Public Works will be working on our parking lots and that we plan on restriping when that is complete. Angela Fanette stated that the Recreation Center will close on May 26, 2022 at 5pm for graduation to allow staff to attend. Angela Fanette presented the 4th of July map and the SkyWonder app for the program. Brandin Shaw asked if the music for the show would be on the radio station. Angela Fanette stated the fireworks show music would be available through the app this year instead of radio, but that radio ads and television ads will be similar to years past. Angela Fanette stated that the Veterans VIP area and the Field of Honor will return to the 4th of July program this year. Angela Fanette stated sponsorship is available until June 1st. Volunteers are welcome as well. Angela Fanette stated the summer swim programming will be operated by the YMCA of Southeast Texas. May 25th and 26th will be NISD parties and the season will run June 1st thru August 15th, 1-7p Wednesday-Saturday and 1-5p Sunday. The Parks Department is hiring for a morning departmental clerk, seasonal recreation attendant, and recreation attendant positions. Brandin Shaw asked about food vendor requirements; Angela Fanette stated she was getting clarification from the Inspection Department about the 4th of July programming and an additional request from a local church as well regarding permitting food trucks. Alex Rupp stated a cooling trailer may be available from the county and could be requested by the City of Nederland for the event via email. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous: Alex Rupp asked if there was any additional new or old business and there was not. There were no additional communications.
