1. MEETING
The meeting was held August 10, 2022 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Paul Hussey.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Jason Butler, Paul Hussey, Alex Rupp
MEMBERS ABSENT: Betty Davis-Pruitt, Brandin Shaw
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director; Mikaela Clark,
Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Jason Butler made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Alex Rupp
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Angela Fanette stated that the 5th Street park climber and swing set is scheduled to go in the week
of August 17th. The volleyball court divider was removed by public works. Staff is also currently
researching inclusive playgrounds. Alex Rupp asked if there will be signs identifying the playground.
Angela Fanette stated that the playground will come with appropriate signage. Angela Fanette is
researching requirements for concrete testing for the half-court basketball court. The pool deck
project was approved at the City Council meeting and the bid was awarded to Progressive Aquatics.
Paul Hussey wanted to know when the project would start and Angela Fanette said that it would be
as soon as possible. Angela Fanette stated that the Recreation Center gym A/C needs to have a new
30-ton condenser and we are approximately 10 weeks out on receiving it. The gym floor will be
recoated this year once the A/C is installed. There is a roof leak at the Rec currently scheduled for
repair. The Tex Ritter Park lighting project is out for bids. The parking areas are schedule to be done
this year. A pool light repair is scheduled. Nine disc golf buckets were approved for budget next year
to be put in at Rienstra Park. Preliminary engineering has begun for the pond at Doornbos. Jason
Butler asked where the drains are that come into the pond. Angela Fanette stated that it comes in
from Avenue H, the back shop, and the parking lot. Due to a water hammer at the pool, equipment
is being inspected to determine if repairs are needed. No action was necessary.
b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming.
The department will be doing art banners and veteran banners for Boston Avenue. A shed at the
pool is being replaced. National Night Out is scheduled for October 4, 2022. Monsters in The Park
will be held on October 14, 2022. Christmas on the Avenue will be held on December 3, 2022. On
August 16, 2022 the fire department is going to do aquatics training at the pool. All of the Parks
staff will be certified in CPR/FA/AED in the next few months. No action was necessary.
4. COMMUNICATION
a. Miscellaneous:
Angela Fanette stated that the pool will close on August 14th and staff will be reviewing how to
move forward next year regarding the YMCA operating the pool next season.
A motion was made by Alex Rupp to adjourn the meeting, and seconded by Jason Butler. All voted
aye and meeting was adjourned at 12:46 pm.
