1. MEETING
The meeting was held September 14, 2022, in the City of Nederland Recreation Center
at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Paul Hussey.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Brandin Shaw, Paul Hussey, Alex Rupp
MEMBERS ABSENT: Betty Davis-Pruitt, Jason Butler
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Brandin Shaw
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Paul Hussey stated that he was glad to see a sign on the Recreation door that stated 12 and under
must be with a parent. Angela Fanette stated that age requirements with parents are listing in the
ordinance for the parks. Angela Fanette stated that the 5th Street Park climber and swing set is
complete. Staff is continuing to research for inclusive playgrounds for the area that previously was
volleyball at Doornbos Park. A state approved contract pricing quote has been received for a ½
court basketball court and has been sent to the City Manager’s office for review and is being
reviewed for compliance. The pool deck project is ongoing, and a good portion of concrete has been
removed. Angela Fanette stated that the Recreation Center gym A/C new 30-ton condenser is on
order and are waiting on arrival and install date. The roof leak at the Nederland Recreation Center is
repaired. The Tex Ritter Park lighting project received one bid and we are waiting for comments
from the engineer. Alex Rupp suggested that bids be sent to Sabine Area Labor Council. Nine-disc
golf buckets were approved for budget next year to be put in at Rienstra Park and planning would
begin in October. Preliminary engineering and testing are ongoing for the pond at Doornbos. A new
shed will be installed at the Nederland Pool tomorrow for chemical storage. Mulch is planned this
month for the Cropo Leblanc play area. Trees will be trimmed this month and next month at
Doornbos and Rienstra Park. Tennis courts and lighting are currently being researched for repairs.
No action was necessary.
b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming.
The department will be doing art banners for Boston Avenue. National Night Out is scheduled for
October 4, 2022, and the final map layout of the event should be ready soon. Monsters in The Park
will be held on October 14, 2022. The Addam’s Family will be shown in the park that night as well as
costume contests and activities. Christmas on the Avenue will be held on December 3, 2022.
Vendor applications for the event will be accepted beginning on October 18, 2022. All of the parks
staff will be certified in CPR/FA/AED in the month of September. Alex Rupp asked if we have ever
considered Police call towers in the park, and Angela Fanette said that that hasn’t been requested
before, but that an emergency phone is located outside of the front gate of the swimming pool as
part of pool requirements. Angela Fanette stated that a question had recently come up regarding
usage of the park for tennis practices by organizations and tennis lessons. Angela Fanette stated
that requests for practices could be submitted in writing for review, and that no private lessons for
tennis or other sports are authorized in the parks system. No action was necessary.

A motion was made by Alex Rupp to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Brandin Shaw. All voted
aye and meeting was adjourned at 12:39 pm.
