1. MEETING
The meeting was held January 11, 2023 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at
2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Paul Hussey.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Jason Butler, Paul Hussey, Alex Rupp, Betty Davis-Pruitt arrived at
12:11pm
MEMBERS ABSENT: Brandin Shaw
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director; Mikaela Clark,
Recreation/Aquatics Assistant
2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Jason Butler made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Alex Rupp
seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements.
Angela Fanette stated that the Tex Ritter lighting project scope is being re-evaluated. We have
contacted Entergy for security lighting. The Nederland Swimming Pool deck project is in
progress. The Recreation Center Gym A/C install is projected to happen this month. We are
preparing project information for repairs to the Tennis Court lighting at Doornbos Park. Designs
are being prepared for the inclusive playground that will be put at Doornbos Park. The funds for
the half-court basketball court are going to be used towards the planned inclusive playground
or Christmas décor per the City Manager. The Doornbos Park pond bid opening is January 12,
2023 at 2pm. ASK is putting down turf at the Babe Ruth Park and Babe Ruth has purchased a
new score board for the facility. Both entities plan on doing additional improvements to the
facility. No action was taken.
b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming.
HOFNOD may not happen this year due to possible pond construction. Trash Bash will be
difficult to hold due to construction and we are looking at alternatives. RFPs for operation of
the Nederland Swimming Pool are due on January 26, 2023. The July 4th firework show is
scheduled as planned. Art banners will be going up on Boston Avenue. We will begin accepting
Veteran Banner applicants at the end of February. The Nederland Little Dribblers will be using
the Nederland Recreation Center gym through the month of February. No action was taken.
4. COMMUNICATION
a. Miscellaneous:
Betty Davis Pruitt asked what the end of her term was for the Parks Advisory Board because she
would like to be done at the end of her term. Angela Fanette stated that she will get the
information for her from the City Clerk. No action was needed.
A motion was made by Jason Butler to adjourn the meeting, and seconded by Alex Rupp. All voted
aye and meeting was adjourned at 12:51 pm.
