MEETING The meeting was held November 8, 2023 in the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Jason Butler. MEMBERS PRESENT: Jason Butler, Alex Rupp, Brandin Shaw MEMBERS ABSENT: Paul Hussey CITY STAFF PRESENT: Toby Latiolais, Parks and Recreation Director; Mikaela Clark, Recreation/Aquatics Assistant 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Brandin Shaw seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION a. Discussion regarding current and proposed park repairs and improvements. Toby Latiolais stated that the gazebo at Doornbos Park will be going to council for approval to be replaced. The parks department is looking into replacing picnic tables, benches and water fountains within all city parks. Toby Latiolais stated that we are working on putting together a memorial bench program. We are currently researching companies for getting the tennis courts at Doornbos Park resurfaced and including pickle ball lines. Toby Latiolais stated that he plans on repairing the softball field at the back of Doornbos Park and installing new backstops within the park for Nederland Little League to utilize for practices. The parks department is looking into ideas for development at Cropo LeBlanc Park. No action was needed. b. Discussion regarding upcoming park programming. The Veterans Day Celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10 am. Christmas on the Avenue is scheduled for December 2, 2023 from 12 pm-7 pm. Nederland Little Dribblers will be utilizing the gym for games and practices starting this month through February. Toby Latiolais stated that he plans on implementing new programming in the new year such as indoor pickleball, a monthly outreach event, partnering with the Nederland Senior Center, and spring leagues. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous: Toby Latiolais stated that the new Inclusive Playground dedication was a success and there has been high usage since the opening. The Nederland Heritage Festival donated $10,000 for park benches at Reinstra Park. No action was needed. A motion was made by Alex Rupp to adjourn the meeting, and seconded by Brandin Shaw.
