MEETING The meeting was held November 16, 2016 at the City of Nederland Recreation Center at 2301 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas and was called to order by Alex Rupp. MEMBERS PRESENT: Brian Gentile, Alex Rupp, Stephanie Gallagher MEMBERS ABSENT: Sylvia Root, Marty Byrd CITY STAFF PRESENT: Angela Fanette, Parks and Recreation Director, Stacy Jacobson, Recreation Assistant 2. APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Alex Rupp made a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes. Stephanie Gallagher seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION: a. Discussion/possible action regarding request for usage for 2017 for Adaptive Sports for Kids. Angela Fanette presented the requested usage for Adaptive Sports for Kids for 2017. ASK is requesting the following times and space for usage: Jan. 7, 14,21, 28 from 9am to 10:30am—gym for Tae Kwon Do, March 18-May 6 Saturdays for the softball field, June 3-24 for soccer in the back field at Doornbos Park on Saturdays, Aug. 5, 12,19,26 from 9am to 11am for the gym for basketball, and October 7-November 14 Saturdays for football in the back field at Doornbos Park. Usage will be flexible based on the needs of the group, weather concerns, and the availability of the department. Alex Rupp made a motion to postpone this item. Stephanie Gallagher seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. b. Discussion/possible action regarding a request from Jimmy Harrison for Little Dribblers usage of the Nederland Recreation Center gym. Angela Fanette presented a request from Little Dribblers for usage for the following dates and times: Little Dribblers would like the use of the Nederland Recreation facility on Monday’s and Thursday’s (from now until end of February) from 5:00 – 8:00 to allow teams to practice. We also would like the use of the facility during the Christmas holidays at these times-December 20 4:00 - 6:00, December 21 5:00 – 8:00, December 22 4:00 – 6:00, December 27 4:00 – 6:00, December 28 5:00 – 8:00 and December 29 4:00 – 6:00. Little Dribblers will be able to provide insurance for this usage. Stephanie Gallagher made a motion to recommend to allow for Little Dribblers to use the court at the Nederland Recreation Center on Mondays from 5-8pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5-6pm. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. c. Discussion on Parks improvement projects. Angela Fanette discussed the current and proposed parks projects coming up for the budget year, including roof and metal work to the Nederland Recreation Center which will be going out for bid, and that the Nederland Swimming Pool project is complete. Additionally, the department will be adding a cover over the Nederland Swimming Pool pump area. No action was needed. d. Discussion on Parks programs. Angela Fanette gave an update on upcoming programming for department including Christmas on the Avenue on December 3, which will include snow, a petting zoo, pony rides, an exhibit from Gator Country, and an ice skating rink. The Rotary fishing derby will be held on February 25th. Trash Bash will be held on March 4th. Art in the Park will be on Earth Day, April 22nd. No action was needed. 4. COMMUNICATION a. Miscellaneous. No additional items were discussed. 5. ADJOURN There being no other business, Brian Gentile made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alex Rupp seconded the motion. All voted aye.
